Sabino Canyon is not only a nature photographer’s dream it is also steeped in history. Twelve thousand years ago, Columbian Mammoth roamed here. About 1,200 A.D., irrigation dams were placed in the creek by Hohokam Indians. The tour guides will accompany you to Sabino Canyon where you will board an open-air, outdoor motorized tram for a 45-minute narrated tour that gets you up close and personal to this desert oasis. Along the 3.8 mile trail the tram makes nine stops for visitors to take in the panoramic views – cameras are a must. Each stop also offers a variety of hiking trails ranging from easy to challenging. Following your tram adventure, you will be treated to a botanical walk where you’ll learn about desert flora and fauna. Be sure to visit the gift shop and visitor’s center at the base. Hiking tours are designed to bring you an enjoyable, informative, and invigorating wilderness experience. Through movement and breathing, hiking expands our physical, emotional and spiritual selves. Professional hikers, certified in American Red Cross standard first aid and CPR, will lead you on a hiking adventure filled not only with the rich heritage of the Native Americans and Pioneers who called the Sonoran Desert home but with insight into the animals, flora and fauna that dwell in this unique desert region. Whether you prefer a casual nature walk or a great aerobic workout, the guides will create a hiking experience just for you! You’ll be escorted to the trail head where you will be issued a quart of spring water for your hiking adventure. Mountainous trails available upon request. 3.5 hour event. (6 person minimum)
“Four-wheeling” is the perfect way to see the true Sonoran Desert. You’ll be picked up in open-air jeeps. You will be transferred to the base of the Tortolita Mountains. From the desert floor to the majestic mountains, the experienced jeep wranglers are “outdoor” people knowledgeable in the field of native flora and fauna. This rugged 4-wheeling adventure will take you through some of the most beautiful desert regions in all of Arizona. The desert is full of wildlife and the wranglers are quick to point out any deer, jackrabbits, javelina or other wildlife that might cross your path. You will enjoy a short botanical nature walk that will help you gain an appreciation of the most lush desert in the world and the live critter demonstration will give you an upclose and personal look at some of the desert’s inhabitants. Authenticity is stressed. 3.5 hour event. (6 person minimum)
