Frequently Asked Questions
My leaves are longer than what can be measured by the instrument, can I use a longer length encoding cord than what is provided?
Yes, the cord provided with the instrument is 4 ft. (1.22 m) but you can order longer cords (part number 214-17616) with a maximum length of 4 ft. 11 in. (1.50 m). That would allow you to measure leaves up to ~4 ft. 7 in. (140 cm) long. Cords longer than 4’11” cannot be reeled up by the take-up reel. See the instruction manual for a description of how to replace the cord.
Why won’t my instrument turn on?
Make sure your batteries are charged. Check the fuse at the back of the console. If the batteries are charged and the fuse is not open, contact your representative for support.
Why does my instrument accumulate area without any leaf present?
We have some tech tips covering this: Hints to minimize data accumulation on the LI-3050A Belt Accessory and LI-3000C Portable Leaf Area Meter with Continuous Accumulation.
Can I use the new LI-3050C with an older LI-3000 or LI-3000A?
Yes. However, since the LI-3050/A gets power from the LI-3000/A console, you cannot use an LI-3000C with an LI-3050/A.
How do I connect my instrument to the computer via USB?
For the LI-3000C, the USB connection is treated as a serial port. Select serial and the corresponding COM port. Find your COM port by going to your computer’s Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT)
